What to Look for in a Dog Sitter or Boarding Provider in Wales

Whether you're choosing home boarding, a licensed kennel, or a sitter who stays in your own home, it's worth checking a few key things: local authority licensing (a legal requirement for anyone boarding dogs professionally in the UK), how many dogs are cared for at once, daily routine and exercise arrangements, and how nervous or anxious dogs are settled in. Reading recent reviews from other Welsh dog owners, and visiting in person before booking where possible, are two of the best ways to judge whether a provider is the right fit.

How Much Does Dog Boarding Cost in Wales?

Pricing across Wales tends to sit at or below the UK average, among the more affordable regions overall. Expect around £15–£28 per night for home boarding, and £12–£22 per day for daytime sitting, with Cardiff and Swansea typically at the higher end. For more detail, see our full UK Dog Boarding Services guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find a dog sitter or boarding provider near me in Wales?

Browse the area list above to see vetted providers local to your specific part of Wales.

Are dog boarding providers in Wales licensed?

Anyone offering dog boarding services professionally in the UK is legally required to hold a local authority licence. Always confirm this directly before booking.

What's the difference between home boarding and kennel boarding?

Home boarding means your dog stays in a host's home, often with more one-to-one attention. Kennel boarding is a dedicated facility, which can suit dogs that prefer a more structured routine. Check each listing for which type they offer.

To us, a dog is more than just a pet, they are part of the family and that is exactly how they will be treated within our home. We know it can be an anxious time when leaving your dog for work or other daily commitments, as well as planning weekend breaks and holidays while you try to find someone who will love and care for your dog the way you do, so we hope you find comfort in following our journey through our Instagram posts & stories!

Your dogs will feel happy to be at Happy Pups Home Boarding. I encourage all small and medium dogs to come and stay with me.

They will have the run of the house and the secure garden and there's no problem if they want to cwtch up on the sofa or sleep on the bed as long as they are happy as I pride myself on making your pups feel as happy as possible while they stay with me. All dogs will be taken great care of and given VIP treatment. They will have lovely walks which will normally be on-lead.

I pride myself on the friendly approach to dog boarding. I will discuss your requirements and carry out a 'meet and greet' beforehand so we all get to know each other. With a limit of just three dogs at any one time and usually from the same household you can guarantee your dogs will be well looked after with plenty of attention. They will very quickly settle in to the home comforts that I provide.

Whether you are going on holiday, travelling for business, or attending a special occasion, we know that for many people, the thought of spending time away from their pet can bring up all kinds of worry, upset, and even dread.
You may be asking yourself, will my pet get the time, love, and attention they need when I can’t be there? Will they think I have abandoned them?

We understand you are worried that no one else will care for them the way you can. This is why everything we do is based on our understanding of how you feel, and is tailored to what you tell us your pet needs… every small important detail. Especially the ones you think no one will honour in your absence.
